Reducing supply chain waste can result in better profits for ASCs, said Molly Ehrlich, Vizient's consulting director of advisory solutions for supply chain operations.
She shared the following supply chain tip with Becker's ASC Review:
"Additional strategies that can improve ASC profits are those that lead to 'lean'-ing, or reducing waste, in the supply chain. These include vendor-managed inventories and consignment," she said. "Distributors offer management of such product categories as suture and endomechanicals, ensuring a right-sizing of these inventories, and vendors may offer certain implants or other high cost goods on consignment, where they own the inventory until the ASC uses it."
