3 things to know about Jackson Surgery Center's SCOUT system

Montgomery, Ala.-based Jackson Surgery Center utilizes a SCOUT radar localization system.

Here's what you should know:

1. Cianna Medical developed the system to help surgeons accurately and efficiently locate target tissue during a lumpectomy.

2. The device is designed to reduce breast cancer patients' anxiety and discomfort by eliminating the need to insert a wire into the breast the day of surgery.

3. Without wires or radiation, SCOUT uses radar technology placed at the tumor site up to 30 days before surgery.
