State Board Seeks to Revoke California Oncologist's License Following Guilty Plea to Fraud

The California Medical Board is seeking to revoke the medical license of a Newport Beach, Calif., oncologist who pleaded guilty to Medicare fraud, according to an Orange County Register news report.

Glen Justice, MD, admitted to fraudulently billing healthcare insurers, such as Medicare and Blue Cross and Blue Shield, from 2004-2009. He billed the insurers for expensive cancer drugs in cases where patients were either never given the drug or were treated with a less expensive drug. Dr. Justice bilked an estimated $400,000-$1 million from the insurers, according to the report.

Dr. Justice’s sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 28. He previously served as the director of the cancer center at Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center in Fountain Valley, Calif.
