APIC Names Florida ASC Executive Recipient of Healthcare Administrator Award

The Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology has named David G. Daniel, CEO of the Lakeland (Fla.) Surgical & Diagnostic Center as the recipient of APIC's second annual Healthcare Administrator Award.

Mr. Daniel is recognized by APIC for "supporting programs that have virtually eliminated healthcare-associated infections at his facility," according to an APIC news release. He is the first ASC executive to win the award.

"Infection prevention should be the responsibility of every healthcare CEO because it is the right thing to do," said Mr. Daniel in the news release. "It is our job as executives to lead by example and change the culture of the organization. The ultimate target of zero infections for our 19,000 patients at Lakeland is now an attainable goal. We have set the bar high, and we feel very good about what we have accomplished."

Mr. Daniel has led infection prevention efforts at his ASC and helped to reduce them four-fold through efforts that included appointing infection control executives at both of LSDC's two facilities, forming a systemwide infection control plan and approving funding for extensive infection prevention staff training.
