An Alabama radiologist is using stem cell injections to address chronic pain in college athletes, according to an Alabama Live report.
About three months ago, Jason Williams, MD, began the new procedure in which he injects patients, including former University of Alabama football players, with their own stem cells to repair damaged joints and muscles.
"This is going to be the future of medicine," said Dr. Williams, who owns Precision StemCell, a diagnostic and interventional radiology practice in Gulf Shores. Though the treatments are considered investigational, they meet FDA guidelines since the stem cells are collected from a patient's fat tissue and administered back to that patient during the same procedure, he said.
