10 New Pain Center Openings & Acquisitions

Here are 10 pain centers that were opened, acquired or expanded in the last six months, according to various reports.

1. Pain Solutions of Northern New York in Watertown, N.Y. Bhupinder S. Bolla, MD, of the Interventional Pain Management Center at Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown, N.Y., has opened Pain Solutions of Northern New York in Watertown. The 3,100-square-foot clinic features three exam rooms, a recovery room and a procedure room. Treatments at the clinic will focus on spinal pain and peripheral nerve blockage.

2. Hope Clinic in Wytheville, Va. Hope Clinic, a new pain management center, opened in Wytheville, Va. The clinic is focused on treating chronic pain. Treatment is mainly in the form of prescribed pain pills, but sometimes other methods are used.

3. Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation's Children's Pain Medicine Clinic in Washington, D.C. Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation in Washington, D.C., will be opening its first specialized pain medicine clinic for children in early January 2013. It plans on providing families access to multi-disciplinary experts in pain management including psychology, physical therapy, alternative therapies and traditional medical treatments at one location.

4. Newbridge Spine & Pain Center in Prince Frederick, Md. The Newbridge Spine & Pain Center in Prince Frederick, Md., has announced the opening of its new center in Waldorf, Md. The center features multiple private exam rooms, a procedure suite and the latest pain management technologies.

5. Prospira PainCare in Mountain View, Calif., and National Pain Institute.
Prospira PainCare in Mountain View, Calif., announced that it has acquired National Pain Institute, a pain management provider in Florida. National Pain Institute provides patients with an interdisciplinary pain management approach focusing on pain relief and has seven locations in Florida.

6. Prospira PainCare and Bay Area Pain & Wellness Center in San Francisco and The Spine Center of Southeast Georgia. Bay Area Pain & Wellness Center in San Francisco, The Spine Center of Southeast Georgia and Brunswick (N.J.) Pain Treatment Center signed definitive agreements with Prospira PainCare. Prospira acquired BAPWC after acquiring the other two providers in August.

7. Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center's Pain Center. Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Augusta, Ga., recently launched an interdisciplinary pain center which affords soldiers alternative treatment for back pain. Treatment includes acupuncture, massage and yoga. The center also offers programs to wean soldiers off narcotics taken for pain.

8. Washington Center for Pain Management in Bellevue, Wash. The Washington Center for Pain Management will expand its Bellevue-based practice to a new location near Overlake Hospital. The practice takes a multidisciplinary approach to pain management and includes treatment for biological, psychological and sociological factors for patients. The facility was previously open two days per week and will be open five days per week in the new location.

9. Pain Center of Arizona in Scottsdale. After 10 years in practice, the Pain Center of Arizona has opened a new location in Scottsdale. Toure Knighton, MD, an interventional pain physician, will treat patients at the new clinic. He earned his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine and completed his residency in anesthesiology at the University of Texas Medical Branch. His additional training includes a fellowship at the University of Texas.

10. Advanced Pain Management's Pain Centers of Wisconsin. The physicians of Advanced Pain Management have opened the new Pain Centers of Wisconsin in Wausau. The new facility offers more space than the previous clinic located in Aspirus Wausau Hospital. Board-certified pain management physicians Mazin Ellias, MD, and Maurizio Albala, MD, will practices at the new location.
