Spine surgeon Lauren Matteini, MD, performed Illinois' first outpatient anterior-to-psoas lumbar spinal fusion, according to a March 10 news release shared with the Daily Herald.
The procedure is aimed at helping patients with spondylolisthesis, or degenerative disc disease.
Dr. Matteini, of Geneva, Ill.-based Fox Valley Orthopedics, said her patient traveled from Wisconsin for the procedure, and the next day he only needed over-the-counter pain relief.
Fox Valley Orthopedics' ASC has state licensing and is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care.
