Researchers at Boston University School of Medicine designed and prototyped a nasolaryngoscopy hood to prevent COVID-19 exposure for ENTs and patients, according to a Dec. 23 news release.
Aerosol-generating procedures, such as a nasolaryngoscopy and intranasal instrumentation were found to carry risk of transmission for COVID-19, the release said. Researches designed and tested a prototype nasolaryngoscopy hood worn by the patient.
The research found the hood was effective in reducing the spread, especially if a patient sneezes during an examination, the release said.
