Athrosurface's HemiCap implant replaces only the damaged part of the joint, leaving most of the healthy joint in place, which helps patients recover better compared to traditional joint replacements, according to mechanical engineering trade publication Machine Design.
Three things to know about the implant:
1. It's designed to be used in minimally invasive outpatient surgery, which allows the patient to have a shorter recovery time.
2. The implant uses a Morse taper, which creates a triangular structure that passes the structural load into the bone.
