3 facts about orthopedist workload

Medscape’s 2019 orthopedist compensation report includes statistics on administrative workload and the challenges orthopedists face on the job.

Medscape surveyed nearly 20,000 to compile the report.

Three workload details:

1. Forty five percent of orthopedists spend 10 to 19 hours on paperwork and administration every week. Twenty-eight percent spend 20 hours or more on paperwork and administrative duties.

2. Twenty-six percent of orthopedists said rules and regulations were the most challenging aspect of their job. Reimbursement, EHRs, difficult patients and lawsuit fears were also mentioned..

3. Thirty-three percent of orthopedists have physician assistants in their practice, while 29 percent have nurse practitioners. Fifty-four percent of orthopedists use neither.
