Key Thoughts on Hand and Knee Surgery in ASCs: What Makes Sense Financially

At the 9th Annual Orthopedic, Spine and Pain Management-Driven ASC Conference in Chicago on June 9, 2011, David J. Raab, MD, president of the Board of Managers, and Jeffrey L. Visotsky, MD, member of the Board of Managers, Illinois Sports Medicine & Orthopedic Surgery Center, recently gave a presentation titled "Key Thoughts on Hand and Knee Surgery in ASCs—What Makes Sense Financially." Illinois Sports Medicine & Orthopedic Surgery Center has staggered OR start times, which could allow 50-60 percent more cases per year per surgeon using the early morning start time. Surgeons are able to do a short case in one of the three ASC ORs and finish before the others start, thereby avoiding disruption to the regular process.
