Ophthalmologist and corneal stem cell researcher Ula Jurkunas, MD, discussed a new stem cell transplant procedure for the eyes during a recent radio program, according to a news release.
Dr. Jurkunas discussed the new procedure, which she predicts will significantly benefit corneal disease and chemical and thermal eye injuries, on the Sharon Kleyne Hour Power of Water radio show.
Dr. Jurkunas said the corneal stem cell transplant has proven successful in clinical trials, resulting in "dramatic corneal clearing and sight restoration," according to the release.
Dr. Jurkunas is an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School and an assistant scientist at the Schepens Eye Research Institute, Massachusetts Eye and Ear, according to her bio.
