The North Carolina Eye Bank has donated $1 million to the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, according to a Winston-Salem Journal report.
The money, given to the school's ophthalmology department, will be used to establish the 3,500-square-foot N.C. Eye Bank Multidisciplinary Surgical Skills Laboratory. The laboratory will have a grand opening celebration Jan. 16.
The mission of The North Carolina Eye Bank is to "recover, process and distribute ocular tissue for the restoration of sight through corneal transplantation and related medical therapy and research."
