Johns Hopkins Offers Implantable Macular Degeneration Treatment

The Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore is the first healthcare facility in Maryland to use the Implantable Miniature Telescope as a macular degeneration treatment, according to a Science Daily report.

The IMT device is not a cure for macular degeneration, but replaces the eye's natural lens and serves as a way to improve patients' vision.

The device received FDA clearance in 2010.
