The ophthalmology drug and device global market is projected to top $52.6 billion by 2017, according to a report from Markets and Markets.
The economic downturn in 2008 and 2009 also resulted in a drop in the ophthalmology market. However, eye-related drugs and devices are poised to grow at a stable rate due to an aging population and an increased focus on combination therapies of drugs.
The market includes devices and drugs such as contact lenses, OCT scanner, IOL and treatments for dry eye, AMD and glaucoma.
