The American Academy of Ophthalmology has announced that Leonard Flom, MD, and the late Aran Safir, MD, both board certified in ophthalmology, have been inducted into the United States Patent and Trademark Office's National Inventors Hall of Fame for the development of the iris recognition scanner.
The iris recognition scanner, widely recognized as the most accurate biometric identification tool, earned a patent in 1987.
Dr. Flom is currently retired and Dr. Safir died in 2007.
