Ophthalmologist Katia Taba, MD, PhD, has joined West Florida's The Eye Associates, according to a Bradenton Herald report.
Dr. Taba is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship trained retina specialist and surgeon.
She specializes in retinal laser surgery, diabetic eye diseases and macular degeneration, according to her bio on The Eye Associates website.
She previously served at the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in Shreveport as an assistant professor for retinal services in the school's department of ophthalmology.
Dr. Taba received her MD from Santa Casa School of Medicine in Sao Paulo, Brazil. She performed a residency in general surgery at Santa Casa School of Medicine Hospital in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and then pursued training in ophthalmology and completed her first residency at Santa Casa School of Medicine Hospital, then a second one at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
She completed a second internship in internal medicine at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., and a retinal fellowship at the Vitreoretinal Foundation in Memphis, Tenn.
Dr. Taba also received a PhD in medicine from University of Sao Paulo in Brazil.
The Eye Associates has six West Florida locations.
