Walla Walla Clinic receives state approval for surgery center — 4 insights

The Washington Department of Health approved Walla Walla (Wash.) Clinic's proposal to open its surgery center to community physicians, the Union Bulletin reports.

Here's what you should know:

1. Credentialed Walla Walla physicians will perform outpatient surgical procedures at the Walla Walla Clinic Surgery Center.

2. Walla Walla Clinic must confirm the scope of its project is accurate and make a $175,000 capital investment in the center to receive its certificate of need. The investment will be used to for equipment upgrades and associated purchases.

3. Walla Walla Clinic was one of two organizations vying for a CON. Both organizations were trying to fill the void after Walla Walla General Hospital closed in July 2017.

4. With the CON and expected additional volume, Walla Walla Clinic Surgery Center administrators expect to perform 2,641 procedures in the year following the CON's issuance.
