The Christ Hospital receives series of local approvals as CON appeal goes through court — 4 insights

Fort Mitchell, Ohio city officials approved a series of rezoning requests from a developer representing Cincinnati-based The Christ Hospital, The Enquirer reports.

What you should know:

1. Fort Mitchell officials granted Christ rezoning approval to add an emergency room to its mixed business land use zoning. Officials also recommended the city administrator have final approval on the developmental plans and that the center could have fewer parking spots than required.

2. Christ wants to build an emergency room, a medical office building and a $23 million ASC in Fort Mitchell. The state awarded the hospital a certificate of need for the ASC, which was then fought by Edgewood, Ky.-based St. Elizabeth Healthcare.

3. A Franklin County, Ohio judge ruled in favor of St. Elizabeth and struck-down Christ's CON, which Christ appealed. The Kentucky Court of Appeals has yet to issue a decision.

4. While awaiting the final ruling, Christ has been working on the rest of the development process.
