Clifton Park, N.Y.-based Ellis Medicine received state approval for its $13.64 million, 40,000-square-foot surgical center, The Daily Gazette reports.
Here's what you should know:
1. The health system announced the center in September 2017 but is waiting to begin construction until it finalizes its business plan.
2. Ellis Medicine wants to provide Clifton Park residents a surgical option in their neighborhood to prevent prospective patients from traveling to other facilities.
3. The nonprofit health system is financially healthy, but it has a narrow operating margin, according to The Daily Gazette.
4. The surgery center will be a joint venture between Ellis and its physician group. Ellis will maintain a majority of the control.
