14 new ASC developments where investors expect to spend $13M-$51.5M

Fourteen surgery center developments announced in 2019 are expected to cost at least $13 million by the project's completion.

Here are the projects that include standalone ASCs as well as larger medical office buildings and campuses with surgical centers:

1. Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanderbilt University Medical Center's planned development in Murfreesboro, Tenn., is expected to cost $51.5 million. VUMC is building a 37,500-square-foot pediatric clinic and ASC.

2. Glendale-based Ascension Wisconsin held a ceremonial groundbreaking on its $42 million medical center with an ASC.

3. Easton-based University of Maryland Shore Regional Health gained permission to transition Cambridge-based UM Shore Medical Center at Dorchester into a freestanding medical facility with an ASC. The project is expected to cost nearly $38.5 million.

4. Medical City Frisco (Texas) broke ground on a 150,000-square-foot, $37 million medical office building and ASC on Feb. 27.

5. Construction on the $37 million Riverview Surgical Center in South Sioux City, Neb., is expected to wrap up this summer, according to the Sioux City Journal.

6. The Memphis, Tenn.-based Campbell Clinic completed a $30 million expansion that includes an ASC.

7. Orthopedic Associates of Hartford (Conn.) opened a $30 million outpatient surgical center in Rocky Hill, Conn.

8. Seattle-based Virginia Mason Medical Center won conditional approval to build a freestanding ASC for $19.4 million.

9. Ulster, N.Y.-based HealthQuest Medical Practice is building a primary care office and an ASC in a former Macy's in Ulster for $18 million.

10. Brentwood, Tenn.-based TriStar Health is moving forward with a $17.3 million surgery center development after fierce opposition from competitors delayed the project for over a year.

11. Pardee UNC Health Care's planned $16 million ASC is part of the nonprofit hospital's strategy for adapting to healthcare consumerism.

12. Melrose, Mass.-based Melrose-Wakefield Healthcare received state approval to build a $16 million ASC at Medford, Mass.-based Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

13. Chicago-based River North Surgery Center is seeking state permission to establish an ASC. If approved by the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board, the project would cost an estimated $15.6 million.

14. Muncie, Ind.-based Central Indiana Orthopedics is working on a $13 million business development in Fishers, Ind., featuring a surgery center, clinic, imaging and physical therapy.
