Christ Hospital Spine Surgery Center (Cincinnati). When Mayfield Clinic founded the ASC in 2007, it was the first freestanding center in the region to provide spine surgery. Since then it has performed more than 10,000 spine procedures, which include single- and multi-level lumbar laminectomies, single- and multi-level anterior cervical discectomies and fusions.
The freestanding ASC is a partnership between the Mayfield Clinic, The Christ Hospital and United Surgical Partners International. It includes three operating rooms, one pain management suite and 11 pre- and postoperative patient rooms.
Orthopaedic Surgical Center of the North Shore (Peabody, Mass.). The 16,500-square-foot facility was the first independent orthopedic ASC in the state. The center was opened in 2004 and since 2005, surgeons have performed more than 32,000 surgeries in the facility.
Jarett Landman now serves as its CEO. The surgery center includes board-certified orthopedic surgeons from Sports Medicine North as well as gastroenterologists, pain management physicians and an urologist.
San Francisco Surgery Center. The center was the first ASC to host MAKOplasty, a robotic system that assists in partial joint replacement. The procedure was successfully performed by Kevin R. Stone, MD, and John H. Velyvis, MD. In orthopedics, the center offers upper extremity surgery, lower extremity surgery, spine surgery, endoscopic and open arthroscopic surgery. It also offers pain management, microsurgery, reconstructive plastic surgery, cosmetic surgery and general surgery.
Thomas Jefferson Riverview Surgical Center at the Navy Yard (Philadelphia). The surgery center was the first ASC to purchase the Navio robotic-controlled surgical system from Blue Belt Technologies in 2013. The system is intended to provide surgical precision in partial knee replacement procedures.
Jess Lonner, MD, associate professor of orthopedic surgery at Thomas Jefferson University and attending orthopedic surgeon at Rothman Institute performed the first procedure using the Navio system at the ASC.
The surgery center features four operating rooms and one procedure room. Its physicians provide care in orthopedic surgery, pain management, general surgery and plastic surgery, among others. It was developed by area physicians, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and Nueterra Healthcare.
Western Connecticut Orthopedic Surgery Center (Danbury, Conn.). The ASC was opened this year and is focused on orthopedics and spine, with an annual volume of more than 5,500 cases, according to Matt Searles, partner with Merritt Healthcare, the company that developed and opened the center.
"We believe it is one of the highest volume orthopedic/spine facilities in the region," says Mr. Searles. "The center has the latest technology and performs higher acuity joint and spine cases in addition to sports ortho cases."
The center is a partnership among 14 spine, orthopedic and hand surgeons and Merritt Healthcare. It is Medicare certified and accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care.
