Philadelphia-based Wills Eye Hospital's residency program was voted the No. 1 ophthalmology training program in the U.S., according to Doximity.com.
Here are four things to know:
1. Wills Eye Hospital faculty serve as the ophthalmology department at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and the Sidney Kimmel Medical College, both based in Philadelphia.
2. The residency program consists of three years of training in all ophthalmology subspecialties after undergoing a post-medical school internship year.
3. More than 500 medical students are currently competing for the eight residency slots available for the 2023 class.
4. Established in 1832 as the nation's first hospital specializing in eye care, Wills Eye also has a network of nine multispecialty ASCs.
