Looking for ways to improve nurse training & growth volume at your ASC? 2 leaders weigh in

Sandy Springs, Ga.-based Advanced Surgery Center Perimeter Administrator Joseph D’Agostino and Georgia Spine & Orthopaedics and Surgery Center of Roswell's COO Laurri Wallace shared details on initiatives that have been successful in their centers.

Note: This has been edited for style and clarity.

Joseph D'Agostino: One of the most significant achievements my team has been able to capitalize on is partnering with the largest pediatric ENT group in metro-Atlanta to offer their patients a lower out of pocket cost alternative to the main pediatric hospital.

This group contains nine surgeons and has contributed to triple digit case volume growth (over 100 percent) for four months in a row at our ASC. Both the patients and surgeons are very satisfied with their transition to our facility. The next step to continued success will be moving to a syndication ownership model.

Laurri Wallace: One thing that we’ve done that was hugely helpful was cross training our registered nurses between post anesthesia care and circulator so that they can back up for each other. It’s been great when we have folks call out as we’re a small center with limited staff.
