Surgical volume has generally been stable for ASCs over the past year, according to OR Manager's 2019 Salary/Career Survey.
OR Manager received "usable data" on surgical volume changes from 163 ASC respondents, with an average annual surgical volume of 5,115. However, surgical volumes varied widely, "making interpretation difficult," the report noted.
Three findings:
1. Forty-three percent of respondents reported no change in surgical volume in the past 12 months, compared to 40 percent who observed flat surgical volumes in 2018.
2. Surgical volume was up for 37 percent of respondents, compared to 40 percent in 2018.
3. One-fifth of ASC leaders said volume has decreased, as was the case last year.
