5 health systems shuttering physician practices

Here are five hospitals and health systems who have close physician practices in 2024:

1. MercyOne announced its plans to close a hospital and consolidate two physician practices in Primghar, Iowa, by Sept. 30. MercyOne, owned by Livonia, Mich.-based Trinity Health, will consolidate MercyOne Paulina Family Medicine and MercyOne Sutherland Family medicine with Primghar Family Medicine. 

2. Northern Light Health will close its internal medicine facility in Dexter, Maine, on Sept. 30. A spokesperson for the health system told Becker's "the building no longer meets our standards for a patient care facility," and it will consolidate its resources into other health centers.  

3. Lewiston, Maine-based St. Mary's Health System announced plans to close its oncology practice, St. Mary's Center For Cancer and Blood Disorders, on July 1. The system and Portland-based MaineHealth are "entering into a more streamlined cooperative agreement in response to a fast-changing environment for healthcare delivery in Maine and beyond," a hospital spokesperson said. 

4. Salt Lake City-based Intermountain Health announced plans to close Duchesne Clinic in Kansas City on June 1 and to transfer the Marian Dental Clinic in Topeka, Kan., and the St. Vincent Clinic in Leavenworth, Kan., to Atchison (Kan.) Community Health Clinic.

5. In March, Springfield, Ill.-based Hospital Sisters Health System announced plans to close two hospitals and all physician offices and health centers it operates in Western Wisconsin with multispecialty group Prevea Health.
