Oswego Health's Surgery Center earns CNOR Strong designation — 3 insights

Oswego (N.Y.) Health Surgery Center earned CNOR Strong designation after more than 95 percent of its surgical nursing staff earned CNOR certification, Oswego County Today reports.

What you should know:

1. The Competency & Credentialing Institute awards the designation to surgical nursing staffs, after at least 50 percent of the staff earned CNOR certification.

2. To earn the certification, registered nurses must work in perioperative nursing and complete two years and 2,400 hours of perioperative nursing work. Fifty percent of that work must be in the intraoperative setting. Eligible nurses then take a 200-question multiple-choice exam.

3. Oswego Health Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer Valerie Favata said, "I am very proud of [Surgical Services Director Shannon Campbell] and the 10 nurses who have achieved this certification."
