University Medical Center of El Paso's Center for Diagnostic and Advanced Endoscopy physician Antonio Mendoza-Ladd, MD, performed an endoscopic jejunostomy procedure on a patient, restoring their ability to eat and digest food, the El Paso Herald-Post reports.
What you should know:
1. UMC believes it's only the second time this procedure was performed in Texas.
2. This is the second time the Center for Diagnostic and Advanced Endoscopy performed a breakthrough procedure. The health center became the first and only hospital in El Paso to offer a procedure that detects and treats Barrett's esophagus.
3. Dr. Mendoza-Ladd is UMC's Director of Endoscopy.
