Trans-Anal Minimally Invasive Surgery Introduced in California

UC San Diego Health System recently became the first provider in the Western United States to host scarless removal of rectal tumors, according to release from the health system.

The new technique, called trans-anal minimally invasive surgery, involves using thin surgical instruments on a stable surgical platform that rests inside the anus.

TAMIS, a less invasive procedure for removing advanced polyps, involves significantly less pain and scarring than the standard surgical procedure of removing and reconstructing the colon and rectum.
