Three members of the American Gastroenterological Association have been elected to the Institute of Medicine, according to a news release.
They are as follows:
- R. Daniel Beauchamp, MD — John Clinton Foshee distinguished professor of surgery and chair, section of surgical sciences, Vanderbilt University Medical Center; and surgeon-in-chief, Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville, Tenn.
- David A. Brenner, MD — vice chancellor for health sciences and dean of the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine.
- John M. Carethers, MD — John G. Searle professor and chair, department of internal medicine, University of Michigan Health System in Ann Arbor.
IOM elected 70 new members and 10 foreign associates during its recent 42nd annual meeting. IOM says election to the institute is "considered one of the highest honors in the fields of health and medicine and recognizes individuals who have demonstrated outstanding professional achievement and commitment to service."
