The American College of Gastroenterology Releases New GERD Treatment Guidelines

The American College of Gastroenterology has released a new set of guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease, which will be published in the March issue of The American Journal of Gastroenterology.

Marcelo F. Vela, MD, MSCR, FACG, Lauren B. Gerson, MD, MSc, FACG and Philip O. Katz, MD, FACG collaborated to help create the new guidelines. The guidelines review potential adverse events associated with proton pump inhibitor therapy and make recommendations on potential risks. The authors also found that not all lifestyle modifications improve GERD.
