Tests Improve Detection Rate of 2 Liver Cancers

Two clinical trials have produced results demonstrating diagnostic urine tests as effective detection tools for two types of liver cancer, cholangiocarcinoma and hepatocellular carcinoma, according to an Oncology Nurse Advisor report.

Urinary metabolites were shown to help diagnose hepatocellular carcinoma. Peptide markers in both urine and bile demonstrated the ability to detect local and systemic changes in cholangiocarcinoma progression.

The data was presented at the International Liver Congress 2013, held in Amsterdam.
