Spokane (Wash.) Digestive Center is leaning fully into Washington State's new WAHealthCareCompare website as it embraces price transparency.
What you should know:
1. Using the All-Payers Claims Database, purchases, providers and consumers can compare costs by procedure and geography.
2. Twenty states have databases available to the public, but only six states have the database online.
3. CMS launched a site in late 2018 that offers the same services, but Spoke Digestive Center urges Washington-based patients to use the state site instead to view "more accurate actual cost cares and compare those costs across multiple facilities."
4. Spoke Digestive CEO Scott Glennie was so impressed by the state's database, that he linked to it on the practice's website. He said, "My initial reaction when I saw the site was, this is fantastic. … We've taken it a step further and published our quality data on our website, so patients can see quality and price."
5. He added, "Once we give patients relevant information, health care providers and facilities will have to compete on price, quality and service. When this happens, you'll see a very different medical trend in the future. Washington State got it right."
