Researchers Lead New Esophageal Cancer Network

Five investigators will lead a new collaborative network, called Barrett's Esophagus Translational Research Network, aimed at studying the genetic determinants of Barrett's esophagus and esophageal adenocarcinoma, according to a news release.

BETRNet is funded by a $5.4 million grant from the National Institutes of Health. The principal investigators are Nicholas J. Shaheen, MD, MPH, professor in the UNC School of Medicine; Amitabh Chak, MD, professor of medicine at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine; Sanford Markowitz, Ingalls Professor of Cancer Genetics at the CWRU School of Medicine; Nathan A. Berger, MD, Hanna-Payne Professor of Experimental Medicine at CWRU; Robert Elston, MD, professor of epidemiology and biostatistics at CWRU, and William Grady, MD, professor of medicine at the University of Washington and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.
