Olympus unveils VISERA 4K UHD with big screen — 5 key notes

Olympus unveiled the VISERA 4K UHD System earlier this month.

Here are five things to know about the technology:

1. The VISERA 4K UHD big screen surgical system is designed to deliver four times the HD resolution with better light and wider color spectrum.

2. The screen's operative display is 55 inches, meant to magnify anatomical features and delivery additional visual information to the surgical team.

3. The screen is the first of several products from the Sony-Olympus Medical Solutions joint venture, focused on enhancing minimally invasive surgery for specialties such as gastroenterology, general surgery, gynecology and urology.

4. The first customers began using VISERA 4K UHD in the first week of March.

5. The system creates high resolution images to identify fine patterns and anatomical structures.

"The color and contrast in the Olympus 4K image provides superb clarity, unlike any operative video image I have seen before," said Ninh Nguyen, MD, professor and interim chair of the department of surgery at the University of California Irvine Medical Center. "The image is so clear that I was able to see down to the capillary level."
