Stanford Hospital & Clinics' new Gastrointestinal Pain Program brings together gastroenterologists and pain physicians in a new multi-disciplinary treatment approach, according to a news release by Stanford.
The program coordinates care so that patients don't get lost in the system. Pain physicians can provide new possibilities for patients whose pain could not be alleviated by GI physicians, and the pain specialists get to learn more about GI disorders.
Stanford experts say GI pain has a broad scope and involves a finely balanced interaction between muscle and biochemistry.
