IBS Can Be Diagnosed With a Blood Test, Research Says

Mark Pimentel, MD, and a team of researchers uncovered evidence to suggest a blood test can diagnose irritable bowel syndrome.

A simple blood test could avoid the need for expensive inflammatory bowel disease testing methods.

Anti-vinculin antibodies are elevated in IBS sufferers. The elevated antibody level also distinguishes IBS from more serious conditions, such as IBD.

Dr. Pimentel shared the study's results at the American College of Gastroenterology's 78th Annual Scientific Meeting earlier this month.
