Gastroenterology remains a high earning specialty for both physicians and hospitals, according to the 2019 inpatient/outpatient revenue survey from physician search firm Merritt Hawkins.
Merritt Hawkins emailed a survey to 3,000 hospital CFOs and other financial managers across the U.S. from October 2018 to December 2018 to compile its report.
Three things to know about GI revenue:
1. GIs came in the No. 5 spot for the highest revenue generating specialties, generating $2,965,277 on average.
2. Compared to the amount of revenue generated for hospitals, GI physicians earn $487,000 on average.
3. In 2019, the amount of revenue GIs generate rose 108 percent from the 2016 report, when revenue reached was $1,422,677.
