Gastroenterologist Carlo Di Lorenzo, MD, has been appointed president-elect of the North American Society for Pediatrics Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, according to a news release.
The mission of NASPGHAN is "to advance understanding of normal development, physiology and pathophysiology of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and liver in children, improve quality of care by fostering the dissemination of this knowledge through scientific meetings, professional and public education, and policy development, and serve as an effective voice for members and the profession." The membership consists of more than 1,400 pediatric gastroenterologists
Dr. Di Lorenzo, who will become president in October 2014 with a two-year term, is chief of the division of pediatric gastroenterology for Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He is also professor of clinical pediatrics at The Ohio State University College of Medicine.
