Newark, N.J.-based Beth Israel Medical Center, part of West Orange, N.J.-based RWJBarnabas Health, has named Smruti Mohanty, MD, as the new division director of gastroenterology, ROI-NJ reported July 21.
Dr. Mohanty will oversee clinical care and evaluation of patients with liver and GI diseases.

"His extensive experience and clinical expertise in gastrointestinal and liver diseases as well as his research in racial disparities in liver disease make him uniquely qualified for this role."
Dr. Mohanty has worked in GI care for over 20 years and has specialized in liver transplants and liver disease.
He has also served as the chief of the division of gastroenterology and hepatobiliary disease and director of the Center for Liver Disease at NewYork-Presbyterian-Brooklyn Methodist Hospital in New York City and as an assistant professor of medicine at the University of Chicago.
