New York City-based NYU Langone Health added Paul Oberstein, MD, to its staff, naming him director of gastrointestinal medical oncology and assistant director of its pancreatic cancer center.
Here's what you should know:
1. Dr. Oberstein comes to NYU Langone from New York City-based Columbia University, where he was a member of the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center and an assistant professor.
2. He has a prominent research background based in clinical trials. Specifically, Dr. Oberstein's research is centered on the design and implementation of studies that take laboratory research and apply it to patients.
3. In addition to his research efforts, Dr. Oberstein will see patients and help expedite study progress at NYU Langone Health.
NYU Langone Health's Perlmutter Cancer Center Director Benjamin Neel, MD, PhD, said, "In 2018 for the first time, GI cancers will cause more cancer deaths in the U.S. than any other organ system. Dr. Oberstein's experience in designing clinical trials for these cancers and his expertise in bringing basic research findings to the patient's bedside strengthen our already formidable GI cancer research team."
