Loren Laine, MD, AGAF, of the Yale University School of Medicine, has begun his presidency of the American Gastroenterological Association Institute, according to an AGA news release.
Dr. Laine's presidency began at the recent conclusion of Digestive Disease Week 2012.
Until 2011, Dr. Laine served as associate chair in the department of medicine of the University of Southern California School of Medicine and chief of staff of the Los Angeles County + USC Healthcare Network. Last year, he moved to a new position as professor of medicine and director of clinical research at the Yale University School of Medicine.
Dr. Laine has served on the AGA Institute governing board twice and chaired the AGA Institute Council, which creates AGA's program for DDW. He also served as an associate editor of Gastroenterology, directed the AGA spring postgraduate course at DDW and served as a member of various committees and task forces.
"[Dr. Laine] recognizes the importance of preparing for the impact of healthcare reform on gastroenterology, advocating for GI practitioners and researchers, enhancing education and training during fellowship and beyond, and developing evidence-based guidelines, clinical decision tools, and quality measure for use by physicians and payers," said M. Brian Fennerty, MD, AGAF, professor of medicine, division of gastroenterology and hepatology, Oregon Health & Science University, Portland, in the release.
