Abraham Mathew, MD, a professor of medicine in Penn State College of Medicine's division of gastroenterology and hepatology, has been awarded the Graham H. Jeffries Professorship of Medicine.
Dr. Mathew served as the college's medical director of endoscopy from 2005 to 2011. This year, he performed the first per-oral esophageal myotomy for the treatment of achalasia in Pennsylvania.
Dr. Jeffries was the first chair of the department of internal medicine and chief of gastroenterology from 1969 to 1982.
