The National Committee for Quality Assurance recently published their 2017 Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set quality measures for colorectal cancer screening, which included Exact Sciences' Cologuard.
Here's what you need to know:
1. The two factors that contribute to a high HEDIS' quality measure score are colorectal cancer screening compliance and patient satisfaction.
2. Cologuard has almost a 70 percent compliance rate and an 88 percent patient satisfaction rate; compliance rates for colonoscopy and fecal blood testing are lower, according to Exact Sciences.
3. More than 90 percent of healthcare plans in the United States measure quality based on HEDIS and, under value-based healthcare systems, HEDIS' quality scores influence reimbursement.
4. Cologuard's inclusion in HEDIS gives healthcare systems, payers and providers quality credit for all Cologuard tests completed since it became available to patients in 2014.
