The American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy has issued new guidelines that cite Stretta as a viable treatment option for GERD.
Here are five observations:
1. The guidelines note that Stretta therapy for GERD is safe, effective and durable.
2. The ASGE guidelines state, "This technique uses RF energy delivery to the distal esophagus and appears to reduce GERD by decreasing tissue compliance and reducing transient lower esophageal relaxations."
3. In summary, the guideline suggests that endoscopic antireflux therapy may be considered for select GERD patients.
4. The guidelines were prepared by the ASGE Standards of Practice Committee, approved by the ASGE Governing Board and published in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
5. Mederi Therapeutics developed and now markets Stretta therapy.
