A new study claims anesthesiologist involvement increased the cost of screening colonoscopy by 20 percent, according to findings published in Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
Using Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Medicare data, researchers looked at patients without cancer who received a screening colonoscopy from 2001-2006. They found the frequency of anesthesiologist involvement increased from 11.0 percent of screening colonoscopies in 2001 to 23.4 percent in 2006.
