American College of Gastroenterology Responds to 'The $2.7T Medical Bill'

Ronald Vender, MD, board-certified gastroenterologist and president of the American College of Gastroenterology, recently wrote a letter responding to "The $2.7 Trillion Medical Bill" article that included colonoscopy as a leading cause of high medical costs, according to a report by The New York Times.

Dr. Vender writes that the article fails to take into account the benefits of colonoscopy, which has demonstrated the ability to prevent and reduce the number of fatal colon cancer cases.

Dr. Vender and the American College of Gastroenterology remain convinced colonoscopy is a vital tool for the screening of colon cancer.
