AGA recognizes 19 gastroenterologists through annual awards — Dr. Michael Camilleri earns highest honor

The American Gastroenterological Association recognized 19 gastroenterologists through its annual AGA Recognition Prizes. The honorees will receive their awards virtually in May.

Here are the award winners:

1. Michael Camilleri, MD, received the Julius Friedenwald Medal, AGA's highest honor. Dr. Camilleri received the honor for his lifelong commitment to gastroenterology. Throughout his career, Dr. Camilleri has made several contributions to understanding the gut and served in several leadership roles for AGA.

2. Byron Cryer, MD, and Sandra Quezada, MD, received the organization's Distinguished Service Award in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

3. Kim Barrett, PhD, received the AGA Distinguished Achievement Award in Basic Science.

4. David Graham, MD, received the William Beaumont Prize in Gastroenterology.

5. Lin Chang, MD, received the AGA Distinguished Educator Award.

6. Peter H.R. Green, MD, received the Distinguished Clinician Award in Academic Practice, and Nimish Vakil, MD, received the Distinguished Clinician Award in Private Practice.

7. Vay Liang W. "Bill" Go, MD, received the AGA Distinguished Mentor Award.

8. Griffin Rodgers, MD, received the Research Service Award.

9. The following individuals received the Outstanding Service Award:

  • Shahnaz Sultan, MD
  • Osama Altayar, MD
  • Perica Davitkov, MD
  • Joseph Feuerstein, MD
  • Shazia Siddique, MD
  • Yngve T. Falck-Ytter, MD
  • Joseph K. Lim, MD

10. Arthur Beyder, MD, PhD, received the Young Investigator Award in Basic Science, and Elliot Benjamin Tapper, MD, received the Young Investigator Award in Clinical Science.
