The migration of better-paying cases from inpatient settings to outpatient venues has led many anesthesia groups to grow their surgery center businesses, according to Anesthesia Business Consultants President and CEO Tony Mira.
Using data on case volumes for 16 large practices in seven states over a period of five years, ABC identified the six most common hospital outpatient surgical cases that migrated from inpatient settings:
1. Laparoscopic total hysterectomy
2. Total knee arthroplasty
3. Laparoscopic appendectomy
4. Trans-urethral resection of prostate
5. Anterior cervical discectomy
6. Laparoscopic radical prostatectomy
