Outpatient nurse dies after neighbor allegedly hits him with car — 4 insights

A nurse from Exeter (N.H.) Hospital's Outpatient Surgery Center was killed after a woman allegedly ran him over with a truck, 7 News reports.

Here's what you should know:

1. Nurse Stephen VanDalinda, RN, and his wife Erin VanDalinda were walking their dog when their inebriated neighbor Catrina Costello allegedly swerved to intentionally hit them with her truck. Mr. VanDalinda was killed, Ms. VanDalinda was hospitalized with serious injuries and the dog was injured.

2. Police later arrested Ms. Costello, who had reportedly threatened and harassed the couple in the past. The VanDalindas had an active restraining order against Ms. Costello over a feud about their dogs, neighbors said.

3. Neighbors said the couple was preparing to move after 20 years living in the area, to escape the harassment.

4. Ms. Costello is charged with two counts of felony second-degree assault, two felony counts of aggravated driving while intoxicated with serious bodily injury, two felony counts of conduct after an accident with serious bodily injury and three counts of violating a stalking order.

"Exeter Hospital's administration, clinical providers and staff are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Stephen Van Dalinda, a long time nurse in Exeter Hospital's Outpatient Surgery Center," the hospital said in a statement released Aug. 30. "Stephen was a lovely man and a great nurse who made magic every day. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. We extend our deepest sympathy to the Van Dalinda family."
